The global rise in allergic diseases, such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis, has intensified the need to understand their underlying causes. Growing interest lies in the potential impact of maternal infections during pregnancy on offspring's allergy development, which involves the interplay between maternal immune responses, in utero environment, and infant microbiome. To address these challenges, we encourage further research exploring the complex relationships between genetic and environmental factors, epigenetic modifications, and prenatal and postnatal influences on allergy susceptibility in children of infected mothers.

This Research Topic has two primary goals:
1) To elucidate the complex mechanisms connecting maternal infections to offspring's allergic disease development,
2) To identify crucial risk factors that enable targeted interventions and prevention strategies.

By addressing these goals, we strive to alleviate the growing public health burden of allergic diseases in children.
We welcome contributions that cover a wide range of aspects related to maternal infections and offspring allergic disease development, including but not limited to:
1. The role of maternal immunity in shaping offspring's allergy risk
2. Prenatal infection exposure and childhood asthma risk
3. Longitudinal studies tracking allergic disease development in children of infected mothers
4. In utero factors influencing allergy susceptibility
5. The impact of maternal respiratory infections on neonatal allergen sensitization
6. Investigating potential interventions and preventative measures
