About this Research Topic
The goal of this collection is to highlight the contribution of aquaculture to food security through the development of sound and sustainable production practices. The focus will include all three pillars of sustainability: environmental sustainability (production technologies that optimize fish production and/or minimize significant environmental disruptions or impacts), economic sustainability (value chain analyses, market access for fish products, policy analysis), and social and community sustainability (socially-responsible aquaculture practices contributing to food security and well-being).
The collection will publish original research papers and review articles that highlight the role of aquaculture in food security, livelihoods, and environmental management. Submissions of industry-focused papers on product developments or system innovations are also encouraged. Submissions are welcome in the following specific areas:
• Fish nutrition strategies
• Fish breeding, strain improvement, and genetics
• Fish health management: Disease detection, management and prevention, and fish welfare
• Aquaculture species and system diversification
• Fish processing and distribution and marketing
• Fish and human nutrition
Keywords: Aquaculture, Fish production, Food security, Human nutrition, Sustainability
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
