As vocabulary is a crucial aspect of language learning and effective communication skills, particular attention is paid to teaching it in almost all language learning and teaching contexts. As a result of the growing interest in using technology to assist language development, a considerable number of studies have investigated how different aspects of language, including vocabulary, can be more effectively taught to second language (L2) learners through technological means. Two major aspects of technology assisting language learning include Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) and Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL). The benefits of this technology-assisted language learning include providing further opportunities for interaction among learners, facilitating collaboration among learners, and individualized instruction. Due to the essential role that vocabulary plays in language learning and the rising interest in the incorporation of technology into language teaching, the role of technology in boosting the effectiveness of the teaching and learning of vocabulary merits further attention and exploration.

The major goal of this collection would be to further investigate how various technological devices and techniques can be leveraged to enhance teaching of L2 vocabulary. While a significant number of previous studies have examined the effects of technology-assisted instruction on L2 development, new technological tools are constantly becoming available to teachers and researchers. Hence, further investigation into the ways in which technology can be utilized for teaching L2 vocabulary is an interesting area of research that certainly warrants attention. Technological tools which can be used for teaching and learning L2 vocabulary include but are not limited to different forms of social media applications installed on portable devices which facilitate online activities, numerous forms of language teaching software, computerized dictionaries, glosses and annotations, and so on.

The papers which are considered for publication in this collection include:

1) Original research that investigates the effects of various forms of technology on L2 vocabulary learning.

2) Review papers that consider the major themes and developments in the use of technology for teaching L2 vocabulary

3) Brief research report: The authors can draw on their own data-based research investigating forms of technology used in language classrooms. Authors are also encouraged to draw on their own class research that incorporates innovative forms of technology for teaching vocabulary.
