Background

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a tremendous emotional, health, and financial impact on our global communities. Widespread social distancing and stay-at-home guidelines have resulted in an unprecedented need for solutions to support providers in delivering remote patient care. Fortunately, the continuously evolving technology landscape and the ubiquity of mobile technology resources has resulted in a recent influx in the development of health technology solutions to support, augment, and in some cases wholly deliver evidence-based mental health treatments, such as Cognitive Behavior Therapies (CBTs). The COVID-19 pandemic and the current increased demand for health technology solutions to improve access and delivery of CBT presents an important opportunity and need to study the evaluation and extension of these resources.

The goal of this Research Topic is to bring together empirical research studies on health technology solutions to improve access and delivery of CBT, with a particular focus on their potential impact relative to COVID-19. We are interested in articles on innovative health technology solutions that support, augment, or independently deliver CBT (e.g., telemedicine, eHealth, mHealth), and how they can be, or are being used to mitigate the negative mental health outcomes pandemic.
The ultimate goal will be to provide a stronger evidence-based for these health IT solutions and support for providers in their use during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Topics may include:
• Development, feasibility, acceptability, and/or initial outcomes of health technologies that support CBT interventions with potential impact relative to COVID-19;
• Telemedicine, eHealth, and mHealth CBT resources;
• Telemedicine, video-conference, and/or mobile phone delivered CBT;
• Health technology solutions to support telemedicine or remotely delivered CBT;
• Automated CBT interventions and clinical support for providers, including those with artificial intelligence or machine learning algorithms;
• Delivery of CBT incorporating smartphone or wearable technology;
• Social media platform based or augmented CBT interventions
