About this Research Topic
This Research Topic will be the result of the combined effort of the Specialty Chief Editors of Frontiers in Physics to identify the future leaders of the various subfields of physics of tomorrow. It will therefore be a diverse collection of articles, but one which will provide an outline of the future trends of physics. Let us, as a thought experiment, assume that such a volume would have been published in – say – 1989, 30 years ago. It would certainly have picked up general trends such as the increasing importance that computational physics is playing but, for instance, the explosive growth of network theory that started in the late nineties would have been missed. Hence, while future surprises will remain for the future, this Research Topic will give us hints at whom to follow.
New articles will be added to this collection as they are published. Contributions to the collection are by invitation only.
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
