Human-Like Advances in Robotics: Motion, Actuation, Sensing, Cognition and Control

Understanding biomechanics and sensorimotor control of human is a subject of scientific research for centuries. Making an artificial human is a dream of humanity even longer. This dream, in the last few decades, resulted in a rapid progress of humanoid robotics as a scientific discipline. Service robots of tomorrow will definitely be human-like machines in order to easily fit fully adapted human-centered environment. To that end, bionics of human sensing capabilities, human motion performances, and human behavior patterns, is perceived as an essential part of robotics research.

This Research Topic aims to provide comprehensive insight in latest investigations about biomechanics and actuation mechanisms, sensing systems, behavior patterns of humans and to present current level of developed technology for resembling those concepts in robotics. This will lead us to an answer of how far away are current humanoids from humans. Both research papers which present advances in human-like robotic systems and review articles which describe the current state of the art are welcome.
