Cancer stands as one of the leading pressing global health challenge, claiming nearly 10 million lives annually. Its toll extends beyond individual health impacts, affecting families, communities, and societal structures at large. Despite considerable advancements enhancing survival rates and overall outcomes, a disparity gap looms large. Underserved populations often encounter significant obstacles in accessing crucial cancer-related services, from early detection and treatment to comprehensive survivorship and palliative care, resulting in pronounced disparities in diagnosis, survival rates, and mortality.

This Research Topic aims to enrich our understanding of the structural causes behind these disparities and to develop actionable strategies to ameliorate them. By focusing on underserved communities, it seeks to uncover and address the multifaceted barriers these groups face in accessing equitable cancer care, which is critical for levelling the playing field in health outcomes across different societal segments.

To gather further insights within this critical field of study, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
- Evaluation of current disparities in cancer care access across different populations
- Intervention studies aimed at improving equitable access to cancer care
- Retrospective and prospective analyses of cancer care programs tailored to underserved communities
- Community-based participatory research that involves stakeholders in underserved areas
- Implementation of novel strategies to overcome barriers in cancer care delivery
- Intersectional analyses that elucidate the compounded effects of social and health inequalities

Through facilitating a scholarly dialogue that crosses disciplinary and sectoral boundaries, this research topic provides a platform for sharing innovative research approaches and philosophical insights that aim to rectify inequities in cancer care accessibility and enhance overall cancer care outcomes.

Please note: manuscripts consisting solely of bioinformatics or computational analysis of public genomic or transcriptomic databases which are not accompanied by validation (independent cohort or biological validation in vitro or in vivo) are out of scope for this section and will not be accepted as part of this Research Topic.
