About this Research Topic
In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the profound interconnection between mental health, cognition, and physiological responses in the context of physical activity, exercise, and sports. This heightened awareness has prompted a paradigm shift towards embracing a holistic psychophysiological perspective in research within this field. Volume III of this Research Topic delves deeper into the intricate relationship between psychological factors, such as depression, anxiety, and motivation, and their impact on physiological variables during physical activity, exercise, and sports performance. Through a comprehensive exploration of this multidimensional interplay, we aim to advance our understanding of how cognition, education, and psychological well-being intersect with physiological responses. By examining the nexus of mental health, cognition, and physiological variables, we aim to shed light on the underlying mechanisms driving performance, behaviour, and overall well-being in athletes and individuals engaged in physical activity. We invite contributors to uncover new insights and pave the way for innovative approaches to enhancing performance, promoting well-being, and addressing mental health challenges in the realm of physical activity, exercise, and sports.
The goals of this Topic are to address the following:
• Factors determining performance, including technical/tactical, physiological, cognitive, and psychosocial;
• Investigate the impact of mental health disorders, such as depression and anxiety, on physiological responses during sports performance and physical activity;
• Explore the role of exercises and sports decision-making behaviours perception of effort and physiological performance;
• Assess the effectiveness of psychophysiological interventions in optimizing sports performance and enhancing recovery among athletes and active individuals;
• Analyze the interaction between psychological stressors and physiological responses in determining injury risk and resilience in athletes and sports participants.
• Evaluate the link between pain and well-being in psychological and physiological variables in sports and exercise context.
This Research Topic aims to look at specific themes related to physiological performance and the relationship with the perception of effort. We intend to provide scientific literature with evidence for a relationship between movement, behaviour, and physiological demands, perceptions, and performance: the psychophysiological approach.
• Factors related to psychology, physical fitness, technical, tactical sports, and exercise performance;
• Mental health, and the impact on physiological variables;
• Impact of different decisions and behaviours in effort measures and perceptions;
• Acute and chronic effects of training in psychophysiological variables;
• Psychological state, perception of exercises physiological load, the risk and fear of injury.
• Wellbeing, pain, and discomfort management in sports and exercise
This Research Topic aims to offer valuable insights into the complex relationship between psychological factors, cognition, and physiological variables within the domains of physical activity, exercise, and sports. By exploring these multifaceted interactions, we seek to achieve a deeper understanding through a comprehensive psychophysiological approach, uncovering new strategies for optimizing performance, promoting health, and improving the overall quality of life in sports and exercise contexts.
