The escalating concern over global food security necessitates innovations in agricultural practices to ensure crop resilience to various stresses. Abiotic stresses such as drought, heat, salinity, and cold severely limit agricultural productivity and plant growth worldwide. Recent advances in biochar technology have shown promising results in mitigating these stresses by improving soil health and plant stress responses. However, the mechanisms by which biochar ameliorates abiotic stresses are not fully understood, and empirical evidence from different agroecological zones is still emerging.

This Research Topic aims to explore the effectiveness of biochar in enhancing plant resilience to abiotic stress. Key objectives include investigating the physiochemical properties of biochar that contribute to improved plant performance under stress conditions and determining optimal application strategies for different environmental and soil conditions. Studies that delve into the interaction between biochar and plant physiology to unlock potential genetic expressions beneficial for stress tolerance are particularly encouraged.
