The field of corrosion resistance in weathering steel, particularly in engineering applications, has seen significant advancements but also presents ongoing challenges. The mechanical characteristics of weathering steel, such as SPA-H, alter during double corrosion, a process involving chemical solution corrosion (CSC) and atmospheric corrosion (AC). Despite its popularity, no studies have been published on the coupling effect of these two types of corrosion, leaving a gap in our understanding of the durability and safety of weathering steel structures. Recent studies have attempted to address this by running process corrosion and double corrosion simulations, using methods such as the grey correlation method, White Light Interferometry (WLI), and tensile coupon tests (TCT). However, there is still a need for a better investigation into the correlation between indoor and atmospheric corrosion and the deterioration of material mechanical properties.

This research topic aims to delve deeper into the corrosion resistance of weathering steel, particularly in marine and industrial atmospheric environments. The main objectives include understanding the anticorrosion mechanism, comparing the corrosion resistance of different types of steel, and exploring the influence of different solutions on corrosion resistance. Specific questions that need to be answered include how the corrosion rate of weathering steel varies in different solutions, how the rust layer affects corrosion resistance, and how the corrosion resistance of steel can be improved.
