Frontiers in Sensors is delighted to collaborate with INFN and showcase the work of the Section of New Technologies for Particle and Radiation Sensors (CSN5) at the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN).

INFN-CSN5 is spending a considerable effort in the research and development of innovative methods, instrumentation and architectures for particle and radiation sensors. The compilation of these advancements has the dual scopes to clarify the current state of technology and to describe the potential applications of the outcomes. The list of the recent developments includes several topics: 3D particle sensors, new architectures for silicon-based sensors, radiation sensors for medical applications, flexible organic sensors, superconductive and optoelectronic quantum sensors, calorimetric sensors for high energy physics, gas based particle sensors, new materials for scintillating sensors, dark matter sensors, radiation and particle sensors for space, X-ray and particle imaging sensors, germanium based radiation sensors, radiation and particle sensors for medical treatments. Finally, papers about the latest research of young researchers funded by CSN5 will be included. The growth in both fundamental and applied physis areas, as a consequence of such outcomes, will be outlined.

Aim of this project is to pull together a collection of articles, reporting state-of-art summary on the activities carried on in CSN5 on research and development of innovative particle and radiation sensors. The collection will cover a wide range of applications with its contributions spanning from fundamental to applied physics. Moreover, it will constitute a manifesto for innovation and R&D within INFN not only for the scientific community behind it but also for present and future end-users.

We welcome the submission of Original Research, Review, Mini Review, and Perspective articles by scientists collaborating in projects funded by CSN5 on themes including, but not limited to:
