The transition to sustainable energy systems is reshaping power grids worldwide. Impacts of weather events on power grids have significantly increased in the recent past. Multiple electric grids witnessed outages, load curtailment, and near blackouts. Equitable and resilient energy solutions are becoming key factors for the next-generation power grid.

Socio-techno-economics driven solutions to make energy accessible, affordable, secure, and clean has become a frontline for vulnerable communities. Significant interest and investments are made around the world to enhance energy delivery while considering historically underserved communities, which reshaped grid features and weather patterns can affect.

This Research Topic aims to address a critical gap in energy justice by integrating societal understanding, usually measured qualitatively, into power system operational and planning solutions, which usually depend on quantitative decision. We welcome articles that focus on enhancing grid performance considering energy justice by integrating distributed energy resources (DERs), consumer participation, energy policy, and regulations.

The goal is to foster a comprehensive understanding of how energy systems can be designed and managed to meet growing demand and environmental goals. Specifically, we seek contributions that explore (i) methods for measuring energy equity considering vulnerability and energy burdens, (ii) long-term planning solutions that consider grid resilience and energy justice, and (iii) operational decisions that hedge against price volatilities and fairness both at the transmission and distribution level.

This collection will accept the following article types: Original Research, Review, and Perspective. Key themes include but are not limited to the following:
