Reproductive healthcare for individuals with disabilities is a critical yet underexplored area in healthcare research and practice. Recent evidence suggests that patients with intellectual and/or physical disabilities have decreased access to and often don't receive quality reproductive healthcare services. This is compounded by prevalent ableism within healthcare systems, which often results in discriminatory practices and inadequate healthcare provision for this demographic. Insight into these barriers reveals a pressing need for innovative healthcare solutions and advocacy for patients with disabilities, emphasizing a shift towards personalized, evidence-based reproductive care.

This Research Topic aims to enhance reproductive healthcare quality and accessibility for individuals with disabilities. By tackling the complexities and challenges posed by ableism and systemic inequalities, the goal is to foster the development of inclusive healthcare models that are sensitive to the unique needs of patients with disabilities. Research that investigates the effectiveness of various interventions, explores the intersectionality of disability with gender and sexuality, and offers solutions to improve educational practices among healthcare providers is particularly encouraged.
