Endothelial cell signaling in the wall of resistance arteries is a pivotal area of research within the field of vascular biology. Resistance arteries are crucial for regulating blood flow and pressure, and their function is largely dependent on the intricate signaling mechanisms of endothelial cells. These cells, along with smooth muscle cells and perivascular nerves, form a complex network that coordinates vascular responses. A significant challenge in this field is understanding how endothelial cells integrate signals from various stimuli to modulate vasomotor activity. Recent studies have highlighted the role of autocrine and paracrine signals, such as nitric oxide and prostaglandins, in endothelial cell-mediated vascular control. However, the precise mechanisms by which these signals are released and coordinated, particularly through connexin hemichannels and pannexin channels, remain incompletely understood. Despite advances, there is a need for further investigation into the integrative regulation of vascular function by endothelial signaling, especially in the context of resistance arteries.

This Research Topic aims to deepen our understanding of the mechanisms involved in endothelial cell signaling within resistance arteries. The primary objectives include elucidating the pathways and transduction mechanisms that govern endothelial cell function, as well as exploring how physical and biochemical stimuli interact to control these processes. Additionally, the collection seeks to identify alterations in endothelial signaling that may contribute to cardiovascular diseases. By addressing these questions, the research aims to provide insights that could lead to improved therapeutic strategies for vascular-related disorders.

To gather further insights in the integrative regulation of vascular function by endothelial cell signaling, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
