Alzheimer's Disease (AD) research has increasingly focused on identifying biomarkers that are predictive of disease progression and response to interventions. Recent advances have enabled a more nuanced understanding of how specific biomarkers, such as APOE-4 status, correlate with different aspects of functional and cognitive performance. As we dive deeper into the neurophysiological underpinnings, the integration of gene, blood, CSF, and PET biomarkers reveals complex interactions that influence patient outcomes. However, while substantial progress has been made in mapping these biomarkers to specific neurocognitive deficits, much remains unknown about the mechanisms through which these influences manifest. Furthermore, recent studies have highlighted how neuroelectrical and physiological responses, modulated by factors such as inflammatory cytokines and neuroprotective agents, play crucial roles in mediating the effects of non-pharmacological interventions like physical activity.

This Research Topic aims to delineate the neurophysiological mechanisms mediated by Alzheimer’s disease biomarkers that significantly impact functional and cognitive performance. It also seeks to understand how these mechanisms influence the efficacy of non-pharmacological interventions in slowing or reversing cognitive decline. Specifically, the research will investigate how variations in biomarker profiles alter neuroelectrical and physiological responses, potentially guiding personalized intervention strategies in AD.

To gather further insights into the neurophysiological mechanisms relevant to Alzheimer’s Disease, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

- The role of genetic biomarkers, particularly APOE-4, in predicting cognitive decline and intervention outcomes.
