Suicide remains a significant public health issue, claiming approximately 800,000 lives annually worldwide, representing the second leading cause of death among adolescents, individuals aged 15-19 years globally. The developmental stage of adolescence, characterized by significant psychological, social, and biological changes, increases vulnerability to suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Extensive research highlights the efficacy of therapies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) in mitigating suicidal behaviors. Therefore, this research aims to explore the effectiveness of psychological therapies in preventing and intervening in suicidal attempts, ideation, and behaviors specifically in adolescents.
The goal of this Research Topic is to explore the effectiveness of psychological therapies in preventing and intervening in suicidal attempts, ideation, and behavior among adolescents.
We strive to collect and extend the knowledge regarding effective psychological therapies for suicide prevention and intervention, by investigating and understanding the spatial and temporal patterns, the risk factors and underlying the mechanisms of mental health problems and suicidal behaviors in the targeted populations.
We welcome the submissions including, but not limited to the following topics:
- Psychological therapies regarding the intervention and prevention targeting suicidal attempt, ideation, behavior in adolescents
- Risk factors, stressors, and determinants contributing to suicidal attempt, ideation, behavior in adolescents
- Underlying the mechanisms of mental health issues and suicidal attempt, ideation, behavior in adolescents
Hopefully, the findings will have significant implications for mental health practitioners, policymakers, and future research, ultimately aiming to reduce the incidence of suicide and improve mental health outcomes among adolescents.
