Presbyopia, the inevitable age-related decline in near vision, affects a significant portion of the global population due to the natural hardening and growth of the eye's lens. This condition impacted approximately 1.8 billion people in 2015, many of whom suffer from inadequate vision correction, hampering daily activities and diminishing quality of life. Recent scientific endeavors have yielded temporary alleviations for presbyopia; nevertheless, a profound understanding of the lens’s biochemical and biomechanical properties remains imperative to craft enduring solutions that could potentially reverse or halt the progression of presbyopia.

This research topic aims to scrutinize and address the multifaceted aspects of presbyopia, focusing on the underlying changes in lens stiffness and accommodation with aging. By exploring these fundamental areas, we seek to identify innovative interventions and preventive measures that could significantly improve life quality for those affected.
