End-stage liver disease refers to progressive and irreversible liver damage caused by various factors. Conventional medical and surgical treatments are often ineffective, and liver transplantation stands as the sole efficacious recourse for treating end-stage liver disease. Nonetheless, liver transplantation is frequently complicated by various postoperative complications, which adversely affect the recipient's prognosis. Acute kidney injury (AKI) emerges as one of the most prevalent complications following liver transplantation. It significantly impacts post-transplant morbidity and mortality, leading to prolonged hospital stays, increased healthcare costs, and diminished graft and patient survival rates. Despite advancements in perioperative care and immunosuppressive strategies, AKI persists as a formidable clinical challenge in liver transplantation.

The incidence and severity of acute kidney injury (AKI) following liver transplantation vary significantly, and the exact etiology, diagnostic criteria, and optimal management strategies remain incompletely understood. This knowledge gap impedes the development of effective preventive and therapeutic interventions to improve post-transplant outcomes.

The aim of this research topic is to explore the etiology, risk factors, prevention, diagnosis, and management of acute kidney injury (AKI) after liver transplantation. By comprehensively addressing these aspects, our goal is to deepen the understanding of AKI in this context and identify novel approaches to mitigate its impact on patient outcomes.
