With globalization and modernization, traditional medicinal plants and fungi, used in practices like Traditional Chinese Medicine, have become integral to global healthcare. The World Health Organization notes significant reliance on these products, driving expansion in their cultivation. This growth, however, increases contamination risks from artificial cultivation methods, leading to exogenous harmful residues.
This Research Topic seeks to unite global scholars to explore cutting-edge technologies for safety evaluations. By developing robust standards and regulatory policies, we aim to ensure the safe and sustainable use of these medicinal products.
The therapeutic efficacy of traditional and local medicinal plants is threatened by residues such as pesticides, heavy metals, aflatoxins, and sulfur dioxide. Current detection methods are insufficient, necessitating improvements.
Recent technological advancements—such as fluorescent sensing, electrochemical techniques, and molecular probes—offer promising solutions. These methods excel in complex environments, making them ideal for monitoring harmful residues in these plants and fungi. Our goal is to compile innovative technologies that enhance safety evaluations and improve clinical outcomes, safeguarding public health.
We invite submissions that address:
o Monitoring of pesticides
o Monitoring of heavy metals
o Monitoring of aflatoxins
o Monitoring of sulfur dioxide
o Applications of technologies like fluorescent sensing and electrochemical techniques
We welcome original research, review articles, and methodological papers presenting novel approaches, comprehensive evaluations, and insights into future monitoring developments.
