About this Research Topic
The parathyroid glands, which are in control of the regulation and maintenance of calcium homeostasis, continue to pose diagnostic and therapeutic challenges to clinicians and healthcare professionals. There have been significant advances in the diagnosis of parathyroid disease, which contributes to improved patient outcomes. They include recent imaging modalities and diagnostic biomarkers for parathyroid conditions.
While there have been advances and evolution there is still controversy on the exact role, utility, and benefits of these interventions. There is significant variability of practice internationally, in the utilization of diagnostic techniques.
In this Research Topic, we aim to address advances and controversies in the diagnosis of common parathyroid conditions, including techniques used to assist potential surgical intervention, surgical approach, or specific medical treatments.
We welcome original research, reviews, perspectives, and mini reviews on the following:
• Controversies in the diagnosis of parathyroid disease
• Recent advances in diagnostic techniques in parathyroid disease
• Advances in parathyroid imaging
• Potential biomarkers used for the diagnosis of parathyroid disease
• Prediction models and algorithms for the diagnosis of parathyroid disease.
Keywords: parathyroid, hyperparathyroidism, parathyroidectomy, parathyroid hormone
