About this Research Topic
At present, less than 30% of researchers worldwide are women. Long-standing biases and gender stereotypes are discouraging girls and women from pursuing a career in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) research. Science and gender equality are, however, essential to ensure sustainable development as highlighted by UNESCO. Although underrepresented, and often unacknowledged, female researchers have been crucial to scientific advances. In order to change traditional mindsets, gender equality must be promoted, stereotypes defeated, and girls and women should be encouraged to pursue STEM careers.
Therefore, in a mission to reduce gender bias and to highlight the importance of diversity in all fields of neuroscience research, Frontiers in Neuroinformatics is proud to launch the Research Topic “Women in Neuroinformatics”. We invite researchers in the field to submit original research articles about studies led or conducted by women, or by groups where gender balance is ensured, perspectives on gender equality in the field, case studies and review articles of recent discoveries in neuroinformatics and the role played by women researchers.
We strongly encourage the submission of manuscripts where the lead and/or corresponding author is female. However, we will welcome the submission of any article within the scope above irrespective of gender.
Keywords: Neuroinformatics, STEM research, gender equality, female researchers, Women In Neuroinformatics
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
