About this Research Topic
Years of translational research have successfully improved treatment outcomes for common dermatological conditions such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis through the integration of biologics and small molecules. Despite these advances, many non-communicable inflammatory skin diseases like lichen planus, lichen sclerosus, and granulomatous dermatoses still lack effective therapeutic options, leaving substantial gaps in patient care. Emerging laboratory techniques, including single-cell sequencing and spatial omics, offer profound insights into the inflammatory processes of both affected and unaffected skin areas in these conditions, setting the stage for potential therapeutic breakthroughs. Yet, the implementation of promising treatments such as interleukin inhibitors and tyrosine kinase blockade in clinical trials highlights the uneven pace of therapeutic development across dermatological diseases.
This Research Topic aims to aggregate cutting-edge research on underserved inflammatory dermatoses, elucidating potential therapeutic advances and their translation from bench to bedside. Submissions should explore the full spectrum of inquiry from basic research to clinical applications, addressing the variability in clinical trial design and patient responses across different demographics. Additionally, this topic intends to serve as a platform for sharing preliminary experiences with innovative treatments, potentially guiding future clinical strategies and therapeutics development.
To gather further insights into inflammatory dermatoses with limited treatment options, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
• Lichenoid dermatoses, including lichen planus and lichen sclerosus
• Cutaneous lupus erythematosus and related conditions
• Cutaneous connective tissue diseases, such as dermatomyositis and scleroderma
• Neutrophilic dermatoses like Sweet’s syndrome and Behçet's syndrome
• Granulomatous dermatoses, including sarcoidosis and granuloma annulare
Types of articles suitable for this Research Topic include original research, systematic reviews, reviews, mini-reviews, hypothesis and theory articles, perspective pieces, case reports, and brief research reports.
