Worldwide water shortage due to water pollution, climate change and population growth has become a critical challenge to solve. With the rapid rates of rising of the population, global demand for freshwater is anticipated to increase in the future. As the world faces water scarcities, wastewater recovery has become a very significant tool to address this scarcity. Agricultural, domestic, and industrial activities are growing along with the population growing so as to supply to the vast demand of civilization. These activities yield large volumes of wastewater, from which water can be recovered. Predictable purification procedures have succeeded to some extent clean water that is appropriate for re-use; conversely, improvements are essential. Water purification using nano-advanced materials have been extensively utilized in solving the problem of water scarcity. Also, it can also be used to reduce the price per cubic meter of treated water using advanced technologies. These advanced technologies such as photocatalysis, ultrafiltration, and nanofiltration.

The objective of this Research Topic is to cover brilliant, novel, and advanced research tendencies in treatment and water quality. Sectors to be covered in this Research Topic may comprise, but are not constrained to:

• Water Purification technologies.

• Green Hydrogen as a clean source of energy.

• Innovative membrane classifications for industrial usage such as (ceramic membranes, hollow fibres, adsorption/desorption membranes; crystallization, and ion-exchange membranes).

• Novel membrane composites; Preparation, and characterization for selective removal of particular impurities from industrial resources (e.g., removal of heavy metals; pesticides /herbicides from agricultural sewages; removal of organic compound).

The main goal of this Research Topic is to develop novel, cost-effective heterogeneous advances for the preparation, characterization, performance, and applications of nanocomposite membranes for the purification and treatment of wastewater. Also, water quality and water management can be considered in this topic. It is anticipated to cover the novel ideas and research ways around advanced technologies for treatment and water quality. Furthermore, one of the main objectives is to reduce the energy consumption of water treatment and reuse using different techniques such as green hydrogen as a clean source of energy. Furthermore, one of the main applications of nanocomposite membranes is wastewater management, which contains: photocatalytic degradation of organic compounds, treatment of fabric wastewater, radioactive waste treatment, treatment of volatile and non-volatile acids recovery from industrial wastes, etc.
