About this Research Topic
New motion management systems (MMS) such as those using cine MRs, along with the use of visual feedback systems for the patient, have recently become available. However, there is relatively little information available about the introduction and use of such systems. This Research Topic aims to provide guidance for the implementation and use of MMS, including establishing requirements for latency and accuracy, and to provide recommendations for medical physicists on the introduction and quality assurance of new systems. An overview of the systems currently available would also enable radiotherapy departments select systems and strategies that best suit the needs of the department.
We welcome authors to submit Original Research, Review, Mini Review and Case Reports articles with a primary focus on, but not limited to, the following sub-topics:
● Overview of MMS currently available;
● Implementation, commissioning and quality assurance of MMS;
● Initial clinical experience with new systems;
● Guidelines for use of MMS, with specific focus on respiratory versus non-respiratory motion.
Please note: Manuscripts consisting solely of bioinformatics or computational analysis of public genomic or transcriptomic databases which are not accompanied by validation (independent cohort or biological validation in vitro or in vivo) are out of scope for this section and will not be accepted as part of this Research Topic.
Keywords: Motion management, gating, respiratory motion, intrafraction motion, surface guided, radiotherapy
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
