Aquaculture is a major contributor to global food and nutrition security and creates employment opportunities for millions of people. The blue transformation vision by the food and agriculture organization of the United Nation (FAO) outlines the need for transforming the production systems to achieve better and sustainable production. However, farmed fish and shellfish are constantly exposed to disease, environmental fluctuations, and other production induced stressors the sector faces significant challenges related to antimicrobial immunity, which can jeopardize fish health, productivity, and welfare.

Understanding these challenges through an immunological perspective is crucial for developing effective strategies to enhance the resilience of aquaculture systems.

This Research Topic Collection focuses on the immunological aspects of antimicrobial immunity in aquaculture. We aim to explore the current challenges and emerging issues affecting fish and shellfish health, with a particular emphasis on immune responses to pathogens, the mechanisms underlying antimicrobial resistance, and the development of innovative prophylactic and therapeutic approaches. We encourage submissions that address the following areas, though related topics are also welcomed:

• Mechanisms of immune responses to microbial infections in aquatic species
• Pathogenic mechanisms and their impact on immune function
