T lymphocytes are important components of the adaptive immune system. Not only do they play an essential role in pathogen defense and tumor surveillance, but they are also implicated in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases. The interaction of epitopes presented by Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) proteins on the surface of antigen-presenting cells with T Cell Receptors (TCR) is crucial for the development of thymocytes (the precursors of T lymphocytes) and subsequent T lymphocyte activation.

Despite extensive research over several decades into the peptide-MHC-TCR interaction, new and exciting discoveries continue to emerge. For instance, the identification of novel neoantigens is driving advancements in cancer immunotherapy. Additionally, innovative techniques like the micro-pipetting assay, which measures single TCR bond affinity for peptide epitopes restricted by MHC, have significantly deepened our understanding of peptide-MHC-TCR dynamics.

In light of these advancements, we are excited to announce a new themed article collection, tentatively titled "Epitopes in the Driver's Seat: The Enduring Significance of Epitopes in T Cell Selection and Activation." This collection aims to showcase the latest findings and innovative research in this impactful field.
