In recent years, inflammation and oxidative stress have been identified as critical contributors to CMD, leading to the emergence of cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome. This syndrome is characterized by chronic kidney disease, with inflammation markers such as C-reactive protein, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, and interleukin-1β, and oxidative stress markers like increased reactive oxygen species and depleted antioxidants, being consistently associated with kidney failure. Despite these findings, there remains a lack of clarity in defining CKM syndrome, staging it for preventive measures, and developing prediction algorithms that incorporate relevant exposures and outcomes. Furthermore, there is a pressing need for strategies that harmonize cardiovascular disease management with CKM health, reflecting the latest scientific evidence and guidelines.

This research topic aims to delve into the pathological implications of inflammation and oxidative stress in the development of renal dysfunction within CKM. By exploring both preclinical and clinical research, the objective is to uncover the molecular mechanisms and biomarkers that link inflammation and oxidative stress to kidney failure in CKM. The research will address questions such as the novel mechanisms and associations between these factors and CKM, and how machine learning can aid in identifying and validating potential biomarkers.
