Immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) constitute a diverse group of chronic conditions characterized by dysregulated immune responses, resulting in inflammation and tissue damage. These diseases, including Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriasis, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Sjögren’s Syndrome, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, and pathologies within other relevant disciplines, affect millions of individuals worldwide, presenting significant challenges to patients and healthcare systems. Despite their varied clinical presentations, IMIDs share common underlying immunological mechanisms. Understanding the genetic basis of these diseases is pivotal for unraveling their pathogenesis, identifying biomarkers, and developing targeted therapies. In this research topic, we aim to explore the intricate relationship between immunogenetics and IMIDs.

The field of immunogenetics investigates how genetic factors influence immune responses and contribute to disease susceptibility. By focusing on key genetic determinants, we aim to pave the way for precision medicine approaches in IMIDs. Our interdisciplinary approach brings together experts from genetics, immunology, rheumatology, gastroenterology, dermatology, pulmonology, and related fields to foster collaboration, stimulate innovative research, and advance our understanding of the genetic underpinnings of IMIDs.
