Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by challenges in social communication and interaction, as well as restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, or activities. Social skills deficits in ASD often emerge early in childhood and can persist into adolescence and adulthood. Without targeted intervention, these difficulties may exacerbate over time, hindering the individual's social development and long-term outcomes. According to the empirical studies, early and targeted intervention is crucial for improving social skills and social competence in individuals with ASD. Research has shown that structured interventions focused on social skills training, peer-mediated interventions, and parent involvement can lead to significant improvements in social communication, interaction, and adaptive behaviors.

This Research Topics aims at deepening our understanding of the social development trajectory of individuals with ASD, including the underlying cognitive, neural, and behavioral mechanisms involved. We also delve into exploring the development of personalized interventions that optimize outcomes for individuals with ASD, by examining the factors such as cognitive abilities, sensory sensitivities, and comorbid conditions.
