The Covid-19 pandemic accelerated the growth of telehealth in all facets of perioperative medicine. Although the pandemic no longer remains a public health emergency, healthcare institutions continue to augment perioperative care with telehealth and artificial intelligence (AI) tools. This research topic will seek to discuss the rapidly evolving areas of perioperative medicine, and critical care focusing on predictive analytics to individualize and optimize patient care.
This research topic will also attempt to discuss and document emerging telehealth and AI trends in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative setting (post anesthesia care unit and telecritical care), specifically looking at research related to the following areas:
1. Telehealth implications in pre-anesthesia clinic (perioperative risk assessment, encounters, efficiency, quality and data)
2. Immediate preoperative and intraoperative telehealth and AI tools with focus on predictive analytics.
3. Postanesthesia care (discharge, hospital admissions data)
4. Telecritical Care [synchronous (continuous and episodic TCC) and asynchronous models]
This research topic accepts multiple forms of manuscript, including original research, systematic review, editorial articles and Opinion pieces.
Keywords:
Telehealth, Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine, Telecritical Care, Telemedicine, Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Important Note:
All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
