As global environmental issues become increasingly severe, environmental protection has taken center stage. Pro-environmental behavior, a key component of environmental protection, is crucial for mitigating environmental degradation and promoting sustainable development. In the era of big data, individuals' pro-environmental behaviors are influenced by their psychological state and various psychological factors. At the micro level, individual behavior plays a critical role in preserving the environment. However, current research on the psychological aspects of individual behavior still faces several challenges and gaps.
This Research Topic aims to
• gain a deeper understanding of how individual psychological behavior contributes to the spillover effects of pro-environmental actions, and the mechanisms through which these spillover effects are propagated
• explore the motivations and influences behind individuals' pro-environmental behaviors, including factors such as personal values, psychological elements, social identity, social norms, and economic interests
• investigate strategies for promoting and encouraging individual pro-environmental behavior.
The Research Topic examines how individual psychological factors drive pro-environmental behaviors and their spillover effects. The scope of this collection includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:
• research on pro-environmental behaviors and individual psychology, environmental sensitivity, awareness of environmental concerns, ecological anxiety, and personal emotions (e.g., sense of awe for the environment and neural mechanisms of place attachment)
• research on pro-environmental behaviors and environmental regulation, social norms, individual behavioral motives, or the use of evolutionary games to study and analyze the mechanisms through which social habits, social evolutionary pressures, social identities and other factors influence pro-environmental behaviors
• commonalities and differences in pro-environmental behavior and cultural values
• research on pro-environmental behavior and knowledge sharing, value co-creation, reciprocal trust, and social exchange.
Keywords:
Pro-environmental behaviour, Environmental sensitivity, Individual psychology, Awe and place attachment, Social norm, Ecological anxiety, Co-creation of value
Important Note:
All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
