.Despite significant advancements in the last decades, cardiovascular disease continues to pose a formidable challenge, persisting as the leading cause of morbidity and mortality across numerous countries worldwide. Central to understanding and combatting this multifaceted threat is recognizing the pivotal role of autonomic imbalance in the pathophysiology of various cardiovascular conditions, including hypertension, ischemic heart disease, arrhythmias, and notably, heart failure. Numerous therapeutic interventions aimed at restoring autonomic balance have indeed demonstrated to improve outcomes in cardiovascular patients. However, a persistent challenge lies in addressing residual autonomic imbalance in many individuals despite the available strategies. This underscores the imperative for intensified research efforts to delve deeper into the underlying mechanisms and explore novel therapeutic avenues.

A robust research endeavor is essential, commencing with investigations using preclinical models of cardiovascular diseases to unravel the intricacies of autonomic imbalance genesis and progression. This foundational knowledge must then be translated into clinical studies aimed at identifying novel therapeutic targets, diagnostic tools, and prognostic biomarkers. Evaluating the efficacy of emerging therapeutic modalities such as sympathetic denervation strategies, invasive and transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation, baroreflex activation therapy, and cardio-neuro-ablation represents the final crucial step in translating research findings into tangible clinical benefits.

To facilitate this critical research trajectory, we invite contributions to this Research Topic focusing on heart-brain interactions in patients with cardiovascular disease. Specifically, we seek submissions aimed at:
1. Advancing our understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms and clinical implications of autonomic imbalance in patients with cardiovascular diseases.
2. Evaluating the effects of innovative pharmacological and/or bioelectronic neuromodulation approaches in improving autonomic balance and clinical outcomes in these patients.

While original research papers (both clinical and preclinical) will be prioritized, we also welcome well-crafted and insightful review papers (narrative or systematic) for consideration.
