About this Research Topic
This Research Topic aims to explore the diverse strategies that allow barophilic microorganisms to adapt and survive in high-pressure environments. We welcome submissions of Original Research, Review, Mini Review, Perspective and Opinion articles on the following topics:
• Mechanisms of high-pressure adaptation in microorganisms, including changes in membrane structure and stress response pathways;
• Genomic and transcriptomic analysis of high-pressure-adapted microorganisms, including the identification of key genes and pathways involved in high-pressure adaptation;
• Diversity and distribution of high-pressure-adapted microorganisms in different environments, including deep-sea hydrothermal vents, subglacial lakes, and oil reservoirs;
• Application of barophilic or piezophilic microorganisms, and their mechanisms, in astrobiology or biotechnology.
Keywords: barophile, piezophile, high pressure, extremophiles, hydrostatic pressure, microbial survival, microbial adaptation
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
