Tuberculosis remains a global health challenge. The complexity of managing tuberculosis is compounded in patients with comorbidities such as HIV, diabetes, undernutrition, parasitic infections, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), hypertension, and COVID-19, as well as in those facing opportunistic infections linked to HIV or other neglected diseases like leishmaniasis and Chagas disease. These comorbidities and coinfections can significantly impact the effectiveness of tuberculosis treatments, influencing both the therapeutic outcomes and the risk of severe drug reactions.
Understanding the nuanced immunological responses to Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the context of these additional health challenges is critical. We are seeking submissions that explore the innate and adaptive immune responses—whether cellular or humoral, systemic or specific—to tuberculosis in the presence of these complicating factors. We particularly encourage manuscripts that compare immune responses at different stages of tuberculosis treatment (initiation, middle, and completion) in the context of comorbidities or coinfections.
For this Research Topic, we welcome contributions in the form of Review, Mini Review, Original Research, Clinical Trial, Case Report, and Perspectives that focus on the following subtopics:
• Immune Responses in Tuberculosis Coinfected with HIV.
• Immune Dynamics in Tuberculosis and COVID-19 Coinfection.
• Immunity in Tuberculosis Coexisting with Other Infectious Diseases, Including Parasitic and Viral Infections.
• Immunological Aspects of Tuberculosis in Diabetic Patients.
• Tuberculosis and Cancer: Exploring the Immune Interplay.
• The Impact of COPD on Immune Responses in Tuberculosis.
• Immune Considerations in Tuberculosis with Primary Immunodeficiencies.
• Tuberculosis and Autoimmunity: Unraveling the Immune Response.
• Exploring the Effects of Various Comorbidities on the Immune Response to Tuberculosis.
We look forward to your submissions that can deepen our understanding of these critical interactions and help pave the way for more effective treatment strategies.

All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
