Cardiovascular diseases are the major cause of mortality worldwide. With the improvement in people's living and changes in lifestyle, metabolic factors have become an important reason for the incidence of cardiovascular diseases. Cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs) are defined as cardiovascular or metabolic diseases caused by various metabolic abnormalities, including obesity, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and hypertension. CMDs are on the rise globally, and the age of onset is getting younger. Focusing on metabolic factors facilitates better management of patients with cardiovascular disease, prevents poor prognosis, and reduces the risk of death due to metabolic abnormalities. However, the underlying mechanisms and drug targets still remain unclear.

Intervention for metabolic disorders effectively improves the prognosis of CMDs, and how to manage them comprehensively and intervene early is still the focus of clinical attention. The key to effectively preventing and treating CMDs is to comprehensively investigate pathophysiologic mechanisms and develop relevant drugs on this basis. The aim of the present special issue is to explore the epidemiologic trends and pathophysiologic mechanisms by which metabolic factors (abnormal glucose metabolism, dyslipidemia, hypertension, obesity, etc.) drive multiple cardiovascular diseases and to illustrate the trend in CMDs research, providing new ideas and potential targets for new drugs discovery in this field.

The goal of this special issue is to focus on the pathogenesis of CMDs, novel targets, and drug discovery. High-throughput sequencing and multi-omics can be used to systematically reveal the pathological mechanisms and potential targets of CMDs such as heart failure, hypertension, aortic aneurysm/dissection, atherosclerosis (carotid plaque), etc., so as to provide a theoretical basis for prevention and treatment of the above clinically prevalent CMDs.

A variety of formats such as original research articles, reviews, and letters are welcome, including but not limited to the following topics:

 Explore the pathogenesis and new targets of CMDs;

 Improvement of lifestyle prevents CMDs and their underlying mechanisms and novel markers;

 The single-cell sequencing studies in CMDs;

 Development of early diagnosis methods of CMDs;
