About this Research Topic
Extended consumption of antibiotics is one of the main causes of antibiotic resistance. Overuse of antibiotics may be a result of both unnecessary treatment (for example in viral infections) and treatment disconcordant with quantitative recommendations.
There is no doubt, therefore, that monitoring the use of antibiotics is an extremely important element of antimicrobial stewardship programs on different levels – hospital, local, regional, and international. Nowadays, there are many concepts and measures of antibiotic consumption. Each of these systems has advantages and disadvantages and various application possibilities.
Research in this area is necessary to assess the current situation and evaluate the implemented prevention and control procedures.
We invite researchers and practitioners dealing with the topic of antibiotic consumption control to send Original Research, Reviews, Case Reports, and Opinion articles as part of this Research Topic.
Keywords: drug consumption, antimicrobial resistance, AMR, defined daily dose, hospitalized patients
