This Research Topic deals with the recent advances and trends on scientific research, development and manufacturing technology in resin matrix composites. High-performance resin matrix composites greatly enrich the material science and technology, which have a significant and far-reaching influence on the development of high-technology-intensive fields, such as aviation, aerospace, electronics, railway vehicle, automobile, wind power, oil and gas. Although the scientists have won a great victory in the research and application of resin matrix composites, there are still many common core technologies need to be further considered, including low-carbon, lightweight, corrosion resistance, and many others.

With advances in the fields of mechanics, computational science, advanced manufacturing, advanced characterization and engineering, high-performance resin matrix composites are booming due to the interdisciplinary integration of these fields. In the past few decades, the rapid development of unprecedented computing power, novel mechanical design, advanced manufacturing technology and characterization technology have promoted the rapid development and application of high-performance resin matrix composites in the field of engineering. Therefore, the purpose of this Research Topic is to present high-quality scientific papers to readers who share their interest in high-performance resin matrix composites. In this Research Topic, we plan to summarize the recent advancements in the prediction, properties and functionalization of novel resin matrix composites within the experimental domains and the applications.

This Research Topic focuses on the progress in design, preparation and application of high-performance resin matrix composites.
