Over the last decades, phenomena involving colloids occurring at various types of interfaces have attracted the interest of a great number of researchers from several scientific areas. The behavior of these systems is strongly dependent on the interactions between the particles and the surrounding medium, which is then affected by thermal motion and gravity. Theory has been able to model the relevant interactions, and this has contributed to the interpretation of experiments and to set up computational simulations involving colloids. From the experimental side, it has been possible to perform the synthesis of a great variety of colloidal materials, such as nanoparticles, polymers, micelles, emulsions, or foams.
The Iberian Meeting on Colloids and Interfaces (RICI) is a conference with a long standing tradition in bringing together Portuguese and Spanish researchers from this area, as well as scientists from other countries. Due to its success, it is already the tenth edition that will take place this year in Coimbra (Portugal).
This Research Topic aims at giving an overview of the research developed in the area of Colloids and Interfaces, with particular emphasis to the novel results obtained over the last two years. We expect that it can illustrate the research that is being developed by soft-matter groups of Spain and Portugal mainly, but also all over the world.
This Research Topic aims at covering the multidisciplinary domain of colloids and interfaces, with particular emphasis in the following subjects:
• Colloids, Biocolloids, Nanoparticles, and Colloidal Nanoscience;
• Surfaces, Interfaces, and Films;
• Polymers, Foams, Emulsions, Liquid Crystals, and Gels;
• Surfactant Science and Technology;
• Advanced Materials and their Characterization;
• Theory and Modelling Applied to Soft Matter;
• Colloidal Biotechnology, Medical, Pharmaceutical, and Food Applications;
• Experimental Methods in Colloidal and Interface Science;
• Colloids and Surfaces in Energy and Environmental Technologies.
Although this Research Topic is proposed within the scope of the 10th Iberian Meeting on Colloids and Interfaces (RICI X), contributions that fall in any of the above-mentioned subjects are welcome.
Keywords:
colloids; soft mater; interfaces; surfactants; advanced materials
Important Note:
All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
