About this Research Topic
The capabilities of a construction project-based temporary organization to respond to disruptive events and recover from them have received increasing attention. Such capabilities depend largely on inter-organizational governance within a project, referring to the formal and informal rules of exchange between project participants, which can ensure the collaboration of participants after a disruptive event. It is imperative to investigate governance issues in the face of disruptive events with an increasing frequency of disruptive events.
Inter-organizational governance is not constant during the whole process of a project, especially after disruptive events occur. Instead, various events will trigger its dynamics. This Research Topic encourages researchers to investigate the antecedents, pathways, and outcomes of governance dynamics after disruptive events trigger. This could involve governance dynamics driven by adverse events, different pathways to governance changes, how project participants could impose different changes in governance, and how governance dynamics can enhance the event-handling capabilities of a construction project.
By scrutinizing the above topics, this Research Topic intends to provide invaluable insights for construction project stakeholders to understand governance dynamics in order to contribute to ensuring inter-organizational collaboration and project success in the face of disruptive events.
Possible themes include, but are not limited to:
• The damage or development of trust triggered by adverse events
• The renegotiation of contract contents driven by unforeseen events
• How different governance mechanisms interact after an adverse event
• How appropriate (or inappropriate governance changes) governance dynamics can enhance construction project resilience (or lead to project failure)
• What different conditions, such as the use of digital technologies, project characteristics, and institutional environment, will shape governance dynamics
The invitation is also extended to other topics that fall within those relevant to construction project management.
