About this Research Topic
Optical properties of matter have been widely harnessed in various recent aspects of nanoscience, leading to applications spanning across fundamental research to industry. This includes, as diverse examples, displays, molecular probes, bio-photonics detection, photodynamic therapy, and vectorial field control. The interdisciplinary design, synthesis, characterization, and application of nano-systems are at the heart of various research directions. For instance, nanostructures have been employed for optical data storage, optical modulation and optical interconnects. Novel nano-materials such as nanofiber, quantum dots, and nanoclusters have been adopted in research into photoelectric devices, microscopy and optical communications. Through combining organic materials and inorganic materials, increasingly nano-scale devices have been utilized in various integrated systems such as optical sensors, detectors and switchers, with low-power consumption, high speed and high stability. Furthermore, optical properties of nano-structures inside the tissues also have been harnessed to assist clinical applications, such as diagnosis of cancer.
Explorations on design, synthesis, characterization nano-systems with applications associated with optics are welcome. This Research Topic aims to investigate the frontiers related to nano-systems themselves or related applications spanning across different research disciplines that feature optics and optical technologies. Original research articles and perspectives are welcome from multidisciplinary research fields – with a focus on topics including, but not limited to:
• Design, synthesis, characterization of nano-system with optics
• Nano-scale devices focusing on new nano-chemical, nano-material, nano-biomedicine disciplines
• Nano-systems with optical applications such as interconnects and imaging
• Novel optical nanotechnology related to nanofiber and quantum dots, etc.
• Any other frontiers fulfilling the criteria for nanoscience associated with optics
