A wide spectrum of differential diagnosis should be considered in patients presenting with urticaria and urticaria-like plaques.
Urticarial plaques may be the initial symptom in acute or chronic urticaria, urticarial vasculitis, autoinflammatory diseases and periodic fever syndromes.
Collaboration with experts across relevant disciplines, including allergy, dermatology, rheumatology, psychology and nutrition are important for accurate diagnosis and different treatment regimens of both common chronic urticaria and rare urticaria mimickers.
In this Research Topic, we aim to draw attention to different and rare diseases that present with urticaria plaques or urticaria-like lesions. On the one hand, we aim to address the most current information on the roles of medical, biological, psycho-social and dietary factors in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic urticaria. On the other hand, we want to raise awareness, reduce diagnosis delays and morbidities about urticaria mimickers that should be considered in the differential diagnosis, especially autoinflammatory diseases and urticarial vasculitis.
