About this Research Topic
This may be the case of war, migration, or any conflict that may involve athletes’ moving to a new country, as well as any situation that changes athletes’ lives such as personal situations (e.g. the birth of a child, loss of scholarships, changes of residence, etc.)
The Research Topic framework provides researchers with the opportunity to focus on the psychological side effects of these challenges in various facets, including cognitive, emotional, psychophysiological, and behavioral dimensions. Additionally, it facilitates the examination of the motivational influences and personality attributes of athletes, and how they may affect athletes’ preparation for significant competitions such as World championships or the Olympic Games in the case of elite athletes, or relevant competitions in the case of non-elite athletes.
For example, consider the psychological effects experienced during significant life changes. In numerous countries affected by conflicts globally, athletes are compelled to migrate from their home countries to sustain their sports careers, often with minimal or no support. It's crucial to perceive the sports arena as a reflection of social realities, warranting a specific analysis.
The aim of this collection is the analyze the psychological effects suffered by athletes when coping with both personal or social situations of change that affect their lives, and consequently, their preparation for significant sport competitions. The published research papers will serve as a reference to help sports psychology professionals optimize their work in these situations.
The collection welcomes articles and papers analyzing the effects of vital changes in environments on athletes' behavior (analysis of the possible effects at the cognitive, emotional, psychophysiological, behavioral, and motivational levels).
The following papers are welcomed in this collection: Original Research, Systematic Review, Clinical Trial, Case Report, Community Case Study, and Conceptual Analysis.
Keywords: Resilience, social conflicts, coping, emotional response, hardiness, athletes careers, sport psychology
