Musculoskeletal disorders in the workplace are responsible for a large number of work stoppages, disabilities, and absenteeism. They are a major public health problem, generating significant direct and indirect costs. They affect workers' quality of life and well-being, as well as productivity and quality of work. Many factors contribute to and reinforce the presence of musculoskeletal disorders: working in awkward postures, repetitive movements, handling heavy loads, inadequate ergonomics, and exposed environments.
Understanding the mechanisms that lead to the onset of musculoskeletal disorders and taking them into account in the design of new production methods or innovative products is a multi-disciplinary scientific challenge. We welcome any research that will: help to understand the importance of understanding and controlling the causes and impact of musculoskeletal disorders, propose new assessment methods, develop new numerical tools, propose new indicators or biomechanical indices, etc.
This Research Topic aims to gather Original Research articles and Review articles that integrate current state-of-the-art gives priority to research focused on new work likely to provide knowledge to improve the prevention and assessment of musculoskeletal risks independently of the industrial work environment.
Keywords:
Musculoskeletal disorders, Biomechanics, Occupational Ergonomics, Neuro-musculoskeletal system Prevention, Human factors, Safety, Modeling and simulation Design of systems, tools and equipment
Important Note:
All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
