About this Research Topic
To highlight the latest advancements, Frontiers has organized a series of Research Topics across the field of Sports and Active Living. This Research Topic, led by Dr Raphael Faiss and Prof James Hopker, is focused on new insights, novel developments, current challenges, latest discoveries, recent advances, and future perspectives in the field of Anti-doping Sciences.
This Research Topic solicits brief, forward-looking papers that describe the state of the art, outlining recent developments and major accomplishments that have been achieved and that need to occur to move the field forward. With education, detection, deterrence and enforcement of the rules as pillars delineating anti-doping efforts, authors are encouraged to identify the greatest challenges in the sub-disciplines, and how to address those challenges. Transversal approaches investigating the ecosystem of anti-doping from policy-making to sanction open the avenue for research both in social and political sciences to be submitted to this RT while life sciences may bridge the gap between the actors of antidoping operating with athletes in the field and the laboratory experts identifying the adverse analytical findings in anti-doping samples.
This Research Topic welcomes Original Research, Method, Review, and Perspective papers with the following examples of topics that could be addressed:
• Methods of indirect and direct doping detection
• External factors influencing biomarkers and detection methods
• Testing protocol and application in anti-doping sciences
• New biomarkers or metabolites used to detect banned substances
• Implementation and challenges of the antidoping code
• Historical perspective of anti-doping efforts and their development
• Education in anti-doping and initiatives towards a more even playing field in sports
• Legal initiatives and deterrence in anti-doping: penalization and law enforcement
• Inadvertent doping and contamination of food
• Athletes’ safeguarding in an anti-doping context.
Keywords: Anti-doping Science
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
