Recent advances in medical devices and technologies have evolved at a pace that makes some of the public suspicious of the technology. For example, consider that mRNA vaccines were not universally accepted by the public. Research on technology adoption is extensive and has addressed technologies such as AI, blockchain, telemedicine, gene testing, and gene repairing technology, finding that traditional technology acceptance and/or assessment models need theoretical modifications. In part due to variables such as trust, facilitating conditions, agile ways of working, and organisational agility which are mediated in new technologies but classically were not in application to more traditional technologies.

As the research landscape continues to evolve, we recognize the importance of embracing a wide range of research methodologies to foster innovative and impactful scholarship. In this Research Topic , submissions that employ a variety of methodologies in their research are welcomed, including but not limited to case studies, survey studies, literature reviews, experimental designs, and mixed methods. We believe that a more inclusive approach to research methodologies can lead to a deeper understanding of complex phenomena, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and enhance the overall quality of this collection .

This research will provide insights into the adoption and use of new healthcare technologies. Such an understanding is essential for developers, manufacturers, and providers to ensure the best support is given to those in the greatest need. For example, AI provides an opportunity to support those experiencing social isolation but unless this largely older population accepts and uses the technology they will not benefit from its development. Publishing research about factors that influence the acceptance and use of new healthcare technology can help better design and educate the users so that the likelihood they use and benefit from the technology is increased.

Manuscripts that address research questions about adoption of emerging healthcare technologies are sought for this Research Topic. Of particular interest are:

- Development of new, specific, models that extend understanding about adoption of the broad range of new healthcare technologies.

- Development of models that extend understanding of the use and benefits of the broad range of new healthcare technologies

- Specific emerging technologies such as new vaccine technologies, genetic engineering, and AI;

For example, social isolation is a major issue among the growing elderly population where AI pets and virtual meetings represent a few technologies that could reduce an individual’s isolation, but adoption and availability of these technologies is critical for their success among those with the greatest needs.

Submissions of literature reviews, qualitative research, or quantitative research that develops and proposes a better understanding about healthcare technology adoption, use, access, and benefits are encouraged.
