Adaptive immunity system involves pathogen-specific effector immune responses. This includes antigen-presenting cells (APCs), T and B lymphocytes. T and B cells develop in the primary organs (thymus and bone marrow, respectively). Once mature lymphocytes are generated, they migrate to the secondary lymphoid organs, including lymph nodes and spleen, where they are activated by APCs. Activated lymphocytes travel to many sites in the body to exert effector functions. Some of them will be differentiated in memory cells, which are important for the control of new infections by the same pathogen.

Process as development, activation, migration, effector or memory functions of adaptive immune cells, are tightly regulated by different mechanisms. Spatiotemporal gene expression driven through binding of transcription factors to cis-regulatory elements in the genome, such as promoters and enhancers, orchestrate these programs. The aim of this Research Topic is to explore the fine tuning changes in gene expression modulated by transcription factors in the context of adaptive immunity, including processes as cell development, immune dysregulation and human diseases.

This topic will help to contextualize and understand how transcription factors play an important role in adaptive immunity and propose future therapeutic strategies in diseases where transcription factors are directly implicated. Authors are welcome to submit all types of articles (Original Research, Methods, Systematic Review, Review, Mini Review, Perspective, Case Report and Opinion).

Manuscripts covering pure bioinformatic analyses are not in scope of the Immunogenetics section of Frontiers in Genetics. Experimental (wet lab) validation of the in silico obtained results is a prerequisite for peer-review. Further, reports oriented towards the application of genetic analyses in oncological disease are not to be primarily targeted to the Immunogenetics unless they evolve in detail around the MHC (HLA) or other major immunogenetic systems and how those affect immune response and or therapy documented by real laboratory and/or clinical data, not solely bioinformatic analyses.

The topics may include but are not limited to:

•Gene regulation of transcription factors in the development of T and B Lymphocytes and APCs
•Gene regulation by transcription factors in the adaptive immunity in response to infectious diseases
•Gene regulation by transcription factors in the adaptive immunity related with autoimmunity and cancer
•State-of-art technologies including CUT&RUN, CUT&Tag and ChIP-seq, and bioinformatics, as applied to gene expression regulation in context to adaptive immunity.
