The 5th Global Congress Microwave Energy Applications (5GCMEA 2024) will be held in Fukuoka, Japan, during July 16-19, 2024.

Unique heating mode by microwaves provides energy efficient and material selective heating which can applied to variety of chemical processes. Moreover, microwave processes are driven by a renewable energy source by effectively converting electrical energy into chemical reactions. With the global trend toward carbon neutrality, we will share and pioneer new microwave chemistry technologies for a negative CO2 emission society. This Research Topic publishes selected important papers from the 5th Global Congress on Microwave Energy Applications.

Recently, microwave chemistry has attracted attention in various chemistry fields. Microwaves enable rapid and selective heating of materials which can effectively accelerate chemical reactions related to organic and inorganic synthesis, material processing, metallurgy, pharmaceutical manufacturing, food engineering, plasma processing, environmental chemistry, biomass refinery, and others. Recent advances in microwave engineering have opened a new way to apply semiconductor microwave amplifiers to achieve highly controlled microwave irradiation systems. Microwave process has now been widely used in various industries. The goals of this field are contributing to carbon-neutral chemical industries by utilizing renewable energy to drive microwave processes. Moreover, from the scientific point of view, microwave chemistry can be realized as a way of controlling chemical reactions just in a similar way as photochemistry and electrochemistry.
