The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on mental health worldwide, with many people experiencing anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions. Psychotropic medications are commonly used to manage these conditions, and there is a need to examine the impact of COVID-19 on the use and efficacy of these substances.

This Research Topic aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current evidence on the relationship between COVID-19 and use of psychotropic substances to manage COVID-19. We hope that it will inform clinical practice and help identify future research directions to optimize the use of psychotropic medication in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. We welcome original research, review articles, and meta-analyses on themes including, but not limited to:

• the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the prescription and use of psychotropic medications/substances

• the effectiveness of psychotropic medication in managing mental health conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic

• the potential impact of COVID-19 on the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of psychotropic medications

• the impact of COVID-19 on patients with pre-existing mental health conditions who are taking psychotropic medications

• the use of psychotropic medication in the treatment of COVID-19 patients who experience psychiatric symptoms.

• the impact of COVID-19 on the mental health of healthcare workers who are taking psychotropic medications

• the impact of COVID-19 on the availability and accessibility of psychotropic medications

• the role of telepsychiatry in the prescription and management of psychotropic medications during the COVID-19 pandemic.

All submissions will undergo a rigorous peer-review process, and the final selection of articles will be based on their scientific quality, originality, and relevance to the scope of this Research Topic.
