Vascular aging is a significant public health concern given its association with increased morbidity and mortality. The economic burden of managing vascular-related diseases is staggering, with healthcare systems worldwide grappling with escalating costs. Vascular aging is not merely a byproduct of chronological aging; it is a multifaceted process influenced by genetic, epigenetic, and environmental factors. It serves as a nexus for a multitude of diseases that are predominant in the elderly, including cardiovascular diseases, stroke, and even neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer's disease. A comprehensive understanding of vascular aging mechanisms can inform preventative strategies, early interventions, and novel therapeutic approaches, thereby alleviating this burden. One of the unique aspects of studying vascular aging is that it necessitates a multidisciplinary approach. This article collection aims to bridge the gap between basic science and clinical medicine by featuring articles that range from molecular and cellular biology to whole organ and tissue pathophysiology. Such a comprehensive approach is essential for translating laboratory findings into effective treatments and preventative measures.

This Research Topic aims to identify gaps in current knowledge and pose questions for future research. It serves as both a repository of current understanding of the links between normal and premature aging of the vasculature and human diseases, and a platform for novel and innovative studies of cellular processes and signaling pathways leading to increased inflammatory responses, vascular endothelial dysfunction, and cardiometabolic disorders. The generated knowledge will shed light on the contribution of normal and/or accelerated vascular aging to various human conditions such as early-onset hypertension, atherosclerosis, inflammatory vascular diseases, aneurysms, diabetic vascular diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, renal artery stenosis, and pulmonary hypertension.
