About this Research Topic
The main goal of this Research Topic is to address the gaps in our understanding of visual perception in children and adolescents with visual impairments. We aim to explore the unique challenges they face, identify the specific visual processing deficits that may be present, and propose innovative approaches to support their visual development. By investigating this domain, we can enhance our knowledge of how the visual system adapts and develops in the absence of visual input, ultimately leading to improved support and intervention strategies for these individuals.
Contributors to this Research Topic are encouraged to address the following themes:
Neural mechanisms underlying visual perception in children and adolescents with visual impairments.
Assessment and measurement of visual perception in this population.
Perceptual deficits and their impact on daily activities and cognitive development.
Rehabilitation and intervention strategies for optimizing visual perception abilities.
Sensory substitution and augmentation techniques for compensating visual impairments.
We welcome original research articles, reviews, methods papers, and clinical case studies that provide valuable insights into the topic. Through this collective endeavor, we strive to improve the quality of life and opportunities for children and adolescents with visual impairments.
